’22 Proxy – Chenin Blanc

The 2023 El Dorado County Chenin Blanc is sourced from a vineyard nestled in the Sierra Foothills, originally planted in the 1850’s to supply wine for the growing population of miners settling the area in search of gold. The 2023 growing season saw a late start due to heavy Sierra snow, and at almost 2000 ft of elevation, the Chenin was shaped by intense sunshine and granite-dominant soils. The grapes were hand-harvested and whole cluster pressed, then fermented in stainless steel. The resulting wine is heady with aromas of lemon, mandarin orange, and a touch of honeydew melon. In the mouth the wine shows bright acidity with pronounced notes of gardenia and jasmine, with compelling hints of wet stone and beeswax.
